Colorado residents who are considering or have already been through a divorce may want to keep an eye on other states that are considering a change in their alimony laws. Several states have recently changed their laws, or are currently considering changing them, in response to complaints that their alimony systems have been unfair.
One of the most contentious divorce legal issues divorcing couples face is deciding how to split the couple's assets. One way to protect oneself in a dispute is to maintain sole ownership over some of those assets. In other words, it is possible to prevent some assets from becoming the property of both partners in the first place, and thus eliminate any basis for having to divide them in the event of a divorce.

Basketball player Kris Humphries, estranged husband to reality star Kim Kardashian, claims to have been offered a $10 million settlement if stopped pursuing a marriage annulment rather than a divorce based on his allegation that the marriage was built on fraud. Humphries wants the annulment because he believes Kardashian only married him for the publicity.
